Reveal’s technology platform and Workflow model was incorporated into Perrysburg’s transit services to coordinate better routing and grouping options.

Challenge

The City of Perrysburg faced a number of challenges within its transit operation:

  • High operational costs
  • Inefficient and manual scheduling and routing processes
  • Late trips and cancellations, causing member dissatisfaction
  • Inability to collect relevant data and metrics in real-time, preventing opportunity for growth
  • Distracted and frustrated drivers due to a complicated scheduling and automation interface

To combat these issues, the City sought intuitive transit software to optimize its transit system—a solution capable of increasing trip volume, enhancing the customer experience, and improving data collection and reporting.

Solution

The City came to Reveal with its needs. Reveal’s technology platform and Workflow model was incorporated into Perrysburg’s transit services to coordinate better routing and grouping options. In doing so, the Reveal platform replaced the previous route structure with enhancements like:

  • Powerful automation capabilities for drivable, realistic schedules
  • A new driver bid model
  • New run-cuts based on historical data

This improved approach allowed the City to support logical business decisions with adaptable data extraction while improving the passenger experience with more timely performance.

Results

Reveal conducted a 200-day study of the Perrysburg transit system—100 days before the implementation of Reveal, and 100 days after the implementation of Reveal. During this study, it was found that Reveal helped the City of Perrysburg reduce trip durations and service hours, while simultaneously increasing overall ridership.

During the 100 days post-Reveal implementation and beyond, the City has seen significant improvement in operational effectiveness, trip routing and scheduling efficiency, and ultimately, driver and passenger satisfaction.

  • 7% decrease in trip cancellations
  • 9% increase in ridership due to better customer service
  • GPS-verified productivity of 1.9 trips per revenue hour (a 15% increase)
  • 13% decrease in trip times with more efficient routing and scheduling
  • 56% reduction in total late trips due to route optimization
  • 99.7% of trips on-time, with some days at 100%
