What is Non-Emergency Medical Transportation?

New to NEMT? NEMT is an important Medicaid and Medicare benefit that helps transportation disadvantaged populations access routine and preventative healthcare. A 2005 analysis by the Transportation Research Board found that four million American citizens delay or miss medical care every year because they do not have access to transportation. Transportation is inexpensive compared to the quickly increasing costs of healthcare—in fact, NEMT accounts for less than 1% of total healthcare spending.
